Ahead of their Wednesday’s (today) Ligue 1 clash against Len at the Allianz Riviera Stadium, OGC Manager, Francesco Farioli, has given an update on the injured Nigeria international, Terem Moffi, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Moffi emerged as an injury doubt for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast after he suffered a hamstring injury ahead of the club’s weekend fixture against Le Havre on Saturday.
The French club announced on their X handle that the Super Eagles striker was not included in the match-day squad after he suffered the injury hours before their game.
The 24-year-old has been an important figure for the Eaglets this campaign and has six goal contributions (four goals and two assists) in 15 appearances.
His absence on Saturday was greatly felt with Farioli’s side losing 3-1 to Le Havre (their second defeat of the season).
The 34-year-old manager, in a quote posted on the club’s website, gave an update on the player’s recovery.
“We will try to get him. Today he will train with the team; we will see how he reacts. We hope to get him back but we won’t take any unnecessary risks. If the player feels like it, he will be in the game, otherwise, we will do without.” Farioli stated.
Moffi has been included in Nigeria’s provisional squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast and his fitness before the tournament will be crucial for the Eagles who are already without Taiwo Awoniyi for the tournament.
