The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, during the inaugural meeting with the retired directors, organised by the FCTA Reforms Coordination and Service Improvement Department on Thursday, said the contribution of the senior citizens was crucial for the progress of the capital city.
Wike, represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary of the FCTA, Udom Atang, said the retirees had played significant roles in the various sectors where they offered their services, adding that they had contributed to building the city from scratch to what it presently was.
“The forum would provide a platform for us to tap into your wealth of experience and knowledge. We have seen in many organisations, where retired officers are invited as resource persons, because of their institutional knowledge and experience to coach and mentor the young ones.
“I think this forum will provide the platform for us to tap into your wealth of experience and knowledge. At each of the training programmes, you can rest assured that in all the professional fields, which are represented here, we will always contact you. This is because nobody can do it better than those who have been here before,” he said.
The minister commended the Acting Director of the RCSID, Jummai Ahmadu, for the initiative to create the mentorship platform, describing it as “the beginning of good things to happen in the FCT”.
Speaking earlier, Ahmadu told the retirees that their contributions to the city’s development were invaluable.
He added that the FCTA was “eager to tap into your insights as we continue to work towards the development and progress of the territory”.
She expressed hope that the guidance of the retirees will shape the future of the FCT, adding that their unique perspectives will help the administration understand the challenges and opportunities for the FCT.
“It is our hope that you will share your ideas and collaborate with the current leadership of the FCT Administration. This is because your unique perspectives will undoubtedly enhance our understanding of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, and together, we can work towards innovative solutions that will benefit the FCT and its residents,” she said.
