The PUNCH reports that Oba Olaoye was, on Tuesday, presented with Instrument of Office and Staff of Office by the state Governor, Seyi Makinde as the 21st Soun of Ogbomosoland.
Soun made this known during his visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, at his Alarere residence in Ibadan, the state capital on Friday.
The monarch described Ibadan as very strategic in the affairs of Yorubaland in particular and Nigeria in general, adding that the place of Ibadan cannot be ignored for whatever reason or purpose.
Oba Olaoye described Ibadan as a home to him while discussing his birth in Catholic Hospital, Oluyoro, Oke-Ofa in the ancient metropolis and lived in Ibadan for 27 years.
He said, “The important and strategic position Ibadan occupies in the affairs of Yorubaland made it compelling for him to visit his brother Oba, the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
“I want to commend you for the peace being enjoyed in Ibadan under your reign, and promise to collaborate with you and other brother Obas in the state, especially the three Imperial Majesties, Olubadan, myself and the Alaafin of Oyo to advance the cause of the state in all ramifications.”
Responding, the Olubadan, Oba Balogun, who expressed delight at his visit, said Ibadan belongs to all as recalled by Oba Olaoye and assured him of his readiness to work together with him and their colleagues in the state, stressing that the relationship between Ogbomoso and Ibadan has been an agelong and can only continue to wax stronger.
Oba Olaoye was accompanied to the Olubadan Palace by some of the principal Chieftaincy title holders of the ancient town, the Aare Ago, Iyalode and Abese.
