Nna, who resides in the Umuojima area of Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State explained that Innocent’s ordeal began in 2021 with stomach pain, which was initially treated with herbs and painkillers.
Despite efforts, the pain persisted, leading to a gradual increase in his stomach size.
Seeking help, the family consulted a primary healthcare centre in their area.
“He started complaining of stomach pain in 2021, so, I gave him some herbs to suppress it, thinking it was a normal stomach pain. But surprisingly, it became an everyday agony for him. He has since then been in pain.
“When that did not work, I took him to a primary healthcare centre in my area and he was given some painkiller but nothing changed even till now,” she said.
She added that all efforts to cure his illness with the little family income failed.
She stated that in February 2023, the family later took the ailing child to the National Hospital in Abuja, where surgery was recommended.
According to her, the doctor reassured her that after the surgery, the boy would live his normal life.
The surgery will cost N400,000, which according to her, the family was unable to afford.
The depressed mother noted that her son’s hope to be educated had been truncated as he could no longer go to school due to the pain he goes through daily.
“Now, my son has stopped schooling because the pain is unbearable for him. This is despite his brilliance. He was always eager to go to school and he usually topped his class but all his dreams had been dashed.
“He dropped out in 2021 and he was in JSS II. I am not educated but myself and his father had vowed to ensure the story is not the same for our children,” the distraught mother lamented.
She, therefore, called on good-spirited individuals and groups to support her family and raise the amount for the surgery.
