The intervention, according to a statement released on Wednesday, helped to replace the old 500KVA transformer, which was abandoned for 20 months and had impaired the socio-economic life of the people of the community.
Speaking during the presentation of the transformer, the Olu of Owode, Oba Kolawole Sowemimo, said the town had been in darkness for over 18 months, adding that the blackout had paralysed several growing and existing business activities in the area.
Oba Sowemimo appreciated Governor Dapo Abiodun for providing the amenity, describing the ongoing Owode-Egba road construction as a good feat that would ease the hardship of people in the community and attract more investors into the community.
The royal father said, “I have never seen this type of transformer; it is indeed, a substation. It will cushion the effect of the blackout.
“Before we were given this transformer, we had spent over N5 million to repair the one we are managing which finally packed up after two months of repairs. We give it to Governor Abiodun for bringing a power station to Owode Egba, as it will light up all the community’’.
Similarly, a community leader from Owode-Egba, Hon. Deji Sowemimo, said that the gesture was commendable as it would bring back the community’s lost glory and improve the area’s security.
The Iyaloja of Owode Egba, Mrs Iyabode Sowemimo, pointed out that the road construction in the area had facilitated easy transportation of goods, thereby enhancing the commercial activities of the town.
