The member of the House of Representatives, representing Ovia federal constituency of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa, on Wednesday empowered his constituents with 25 motorcycles, 198 sewing machines and 73 grinding machines.
Idahosa, while distributing the items to youths, women and farmers in the constituency, said the gesture was aimed at supporting and empowering the people who need it most, as part of his campaign promises.
The lawmaker implored the beneficiaries to use the items for the purpose it was meant for, assuring that other physical projects would be executed in all the wards of the constituency.
He said, “My empowerment programme is a sure way of remembering my people and to say thank you for the mandate given to me to represent them again.”
Idahosa, who had also declared tor the governorship of the state on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, pleaded with those who were not able to benefit from the scheme to be patient, saying that more would come up soon.
Also speaking, the member, Edo State House of Assembly, representing Ovia South-West state constituency, Hon. Sunday Aghedo, commended the lawmaker for coming up with the empowerment scheme, which he said would help alleviate suffering in the constituency.
A beneficiary of the empowerment programme from Udo ward, Mr Amadin Alile, thanked the lawmaker for the gesture, describing him “as a man of the people, who uplifts the lives of his constituents.”
Mr Alike added, “I want to sincerely thank our distinguished representative and I pray that God continues to be with him.”
Another beneficiary from Usen ward, Alhaja Alimotu Omotunde, who got a grinding machine, promised to use the item judiciously.
