A former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Secondus, has described the death of the Governor of Ondo State, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, and that of a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’abba, as colossal losses to Kano and Ondo states in particular and Nigeria in general.
Secondus, in a statement, on Friday, noted that it would be long before Nigeria would get replacements for the two men who died on the same day.
He said, “The death of both Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and Ghali Na’Abba is a serious tragedy not only to both Ondo and Kano states, but to Nigeria as a whole. Both men usually spoke truth to power and were never afraid to speak out their minds even when others did not agree with them.
“Akeredolu was vociferous about killings by herdsmen in the country. He was an advocate of true federalism and was a distinguished lawyer who once led the Nigerian Bar Association. He will be missed with the way he organised the South-West to stop the marauding killer-herdsmen in the region.
“Na’Abba was one of the country’s finest politicians who knew what he wanted and loved the country so much. He showed leadership while leading the House of Representatives as the speaker. He was loved by his colleagues and was also loved by his people.”
Secondus also called on Ondo and Kano states to immortalise both politicians.
