This was disclosed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement posted via his X handle, on Saturday.
The state PPRO noted that having conducted preliminary investigations, adding that a court remand order has been obtained for the suspects till January 10, 2024.
His tweets read in parts, “Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested the trio of Dorcas Adeyinka ‘f’, Sikiru Ayinde ‘m’ and Folake Adekoya ‘f’ following numerous petitions from different persons bordering on cyberstalking, cyberbullying, alleged abduction, threat to life and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
“The police, having conducted preliminary investigations and establishing these cases against the suspects, arrested the suspects for a consolidation and harmonisation of the investigations for possible prosecution.
“To get adequate time for the conclusion of ongoing investigation, the Police have approached a court of competent jurisdiction and got a remand order for the suspects till January 10, 2024.”
Hundeyin noted that the police force would “continue to enforce extant laws of the nation, particularly those relating to cyberstalking and cyber bullying which can trigger violence if not adequately managed or curtailed.”
He stated that the public will be “kept abreast of developments as the investigation progresses.”
PUNCH Online reports that a bill for the protection of children against internet violence, including cyberbullying, passed a second reading at the House of Representatives on Thursday.
The bill seeks “to mandate internet service providers to block access to materials depicting violent conduct, regulate illegal/restricted content irrespective of the host, and remove intimating images and videos shared online that negatively impact children.”
