Former Nigerian striker, Ekigho Ehiosun, believes the Super Eagles are favourites to win the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament which will be held next month, PUNCH Sports Extra
The Eagles face host, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau in Group A at next month’s AFCON tournament which kicks off from January 13 to February 11.
Ekigho who missed out on the 2013 edition of the tournament in South Africa due to injury believes with the array of talent in the Nigerian team, Jose Peseiro’s side has a great chance of landing a fourth AFCON title.
Nigeria won the 1980 AFCON that she hosted and also won the 1994 edition in Tunisia and the 2013 finals in South Africa.
“We have a great chance,” Ehiosun told PUNCH Sports Extra.
“First, we need to qualify from that AFCON group. We need to take our games seriously and avoid defeat.
“The likes of Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface, Sadiq Umar and Terem Moffi can propel the team. It is our prayer that they all lead Nigeria to a fourth title in Ivory Coast.”
Meanwhile, the three-time AFCON champions say they have adopted the catch-phrase ‘Let’s Do It Again’ as their mantra towards winning a fourth title in Ivory Coast.
The proposition was tabled and unanimously endorsed before the final AFCON 2023 qualification match against Sao Tome and Principe in October. The Eagles won that match 6-0.
