The state’s Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed, disclosed this while briefing journalists shortly after the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, on Wednesday.
Ahmed said the commission, if established, would be saddled with the responsibility of attending to issues related to PWDs, adding that a Bill seeking the establishment of the commission would soon be sent to the State House of Assembly.
He said, “During our SEC meeting presided over by Governor Nasir Idris, the Executive Governor of Kebbi State, we have deliberated and arrived at a position on three number of issues.
“These issues include the establishment of Disability Commission, RIGATA Cultural Festival and traditional rulers’ allowances.”
Ahmed further explained that the government was working towards the RIGATA Cultural Festival expected to be held in February 2024 in Yauri Emirate, assuring that arrangements had already begun.
The commissioner recalled that the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Zayyanu Abdullahi, had earlier requested a review of traditional rulers’ allowances to enable them to discharge their duties diligently.
In line with this, Ahmed said the issue was deliberated during the SEC meeting, assuring that the state government is looking into it to proffer a solution.
The commissioner appealed to all and sundry to rally around the present administration to pave the way for more dividends of democracy in their respective domains.
He cited the ongoing transformation of the state capital and the completion of the multi-billion naira ultramodern secretariat project, among others, as some of the projects that would directly touch the lives of the Kebbi people.
“Support and cooperation of people to government policies and programmes are highly needed. This is to enable the present government to achieve the desired goals and objectives, hence the need for the call to all to support His Excellency, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris to deliver the goods successfully,” he pleaded.
PUNCH Online reports that the state government has commenced the training of 2,400 primary schoolteachers in the use of English language, Mathematics and pedagogical skills.
Declaring the training open at the Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi, Governor Nasir Idris said his administration was determined to revolutionalise the state’s education sector.
He urged teachers, parents and other stakeholders to join hands with his administration to move the education sector forward.
