The National Identity Management Commission has directed all its staff members to get their National Identity Numbers on or before January 31, 2023.
According to the agency, it recently came to its attention that some of its staff members are yet to be enrolled into the National Identity Database because they do not have a unique National Identity Number.
NIMC disclosed this in a circular directed to staff and signed by the Deputy Director/Head, Human Capital Management Department, Rhoda Jackden (Mrs), on Thursday.
The circular read in part, “Kindly recall that the NIMC ACT No 23 of 2007, clearly states that the NIMC has the mandate to establish, own, operate, maintain and manage the National Identity Database in Nigeria, register persons covered by the Act, assign a Unique National Identification Number and issue General Multi-Purpose cards to those who are citizens of Nigeria as well as others legally residing within the Country.
“Consequently, the DG/CEO has directed that no staff member should be without the NIN, as it is a mandatory requirement. On this note, the DG/CEO has further directed that any staff who does not have the NIN will not be considered for training and could face disciplinary action.”
The circular ended by declaring that any staff without their NIN should obtain one on or before, Wednesday, 31st January 2024.
Recently, NIMC disclosed that the number of Nigerians with NINs rose to 104.16 million as of the end of December 2023.
