An entrepreneur and fashion designer, Princess Oghene, has advised celebrities to always embrace authenticity in their fashion statements.
Oghene, who is the brain behind GMYT Group Limited, which oversees the GMYT Fashion Academy, Foundation, Apartments, and GAHAWARDS, noted that fashion was a narrative of one’s culture and creativity.
She told Society Plus, “For Nigerian celebs, my advice to them in 2024 is to embrace authenticity and innovation. Let your style tell a story that resonates with your heritage, while pushing the boundaries of contemporary design. Wear fashion that speaks to sustainability, supports local artisans, and embodies the vibrant spirit of Nigeria. Be a trendsetter, who not only stands out, but also stands for something meaningful.”
Oghene who is an alumnus of prestigious institutions such as Lagos Business School, London College of Fashion, Harvard Business School, and Business School Netherlands, has won several prestigious awards, including the ECOWAS Designer of The Year, and Nigerian Entrepreneurs Award.
The stylish entrepreneur also stated that she was guided by the core values of service, empathy, philanthropy, and humanitarianism. She added, “My driving force is a deeply rooted passion for empowerment and societal development. Witnessing the tangible growth and success of individuals who have been uplifted through our initiatives at GMYT Fashion Academy, GAHAWARDS, and GMYT Foundation fuels my commitment. The idea of creating sustainable change within the fashion industry and beyond, providing opportunities for aspiring designers and entrepreneurs to not only dream but achieve, is what propels me every day.”
On her short-term and long-term plans for herself and business, Oghene said, “In the short term, we aim to expand our scholarship programmes and skill acquisition initiatives with a goal to empower an additional cohort of students by the end of the year. We also plan to launch a new line that encapsulates the spirit of African innovation.
“For the long-term, I envision GMYT Group becoming an even more influential hub in the global fashion education scene, influencing policy development and setting benchmarks for sustainable business practices. We’re working towards transforming 10,000 lives by 2030, driving innovation, and propelling the African fashion industry onto the global stage.”
