The online platform reported that no fewer than 100 professors in some Nigerian universities are fake.
According to the report, some of the names on the list of fake professors are allegedly from FUTA.
The university, in a statement issued on Monday by its Registrar, Mr Charles Adeleye, said it had no fake professors.
Adeleye noted that none of the names on the list existed in FUTA.
The statement read, “The attention of the Federal University of Technology Akure has been drawn to a purported list of fake professors making the rounds on various media platforms.
“The names paraded under FUTA are pure fiction and no such names exist in the staff list of the university . Names of all bonafide members of staff and those in the professorial cadre are listed in the university calendar. And the names of all professors in the university can also be accessed in the Order of Proceedings for the 33rd Convocation Ceremony which was published in December 2023.”
The registrar urged members of the public to completely disregard the “fictitious publication and treat those circulating it as purveyors of lies and falsehood.”
The controversial online reports listed nine names allegedly working with the FUTA.
Some of the names include Prof. Titi Adejumo, Prof. Olumide Adebanjo, Prof. Ayodele Adewole, Prof. Ayoade Adewumi and Prof. Alaba Adewale.
Others are Prof. Funmilola Adeyem, Prof. Kehinde Adelekan, Prof. Taiwo Adekoya and Prof. Adetokunbo Ajani. But the institution denied that those names were on their payroll.
Several universities, including the University of Ibadan, University of Ilorin, Babcock University, and Covenant University, have responded to allegations of having fake professors on their payrolls.
They have released statements urging for calm.
