Bandits have abducted a director in the Zamfara State Ministry of Finance, Malam Sabiu, his wife and two children.
The PUNCH learnt that the incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday.
A resident of the area, Auwalu Garba, said the bandits broke into Sabiu’s house in Damba Housing Estate Gusau around 1:30 am on Tuesday.
According to him, the bandits, who were armed with sophisticated weapons, went straight to Sabiu’s house on arrival in the community as if they were acting on a directive.
Garba said, “When they arrived in our area, they did not fire any shot and did not enter into any house. They just went straight to Sabiu’s house where they broke the door, entered the bedroom and abducted him and his wife. They later moved to another room and abducted two children then moved away to the forest.”
Garba said bandits later released Sabiu’s wife on the grounds of ill health.
Efforts to speak with the police spokesperson in the state, Yazid Abubakar, were unsuccessful as he could not be reached on his mobile line.
The PUNCH reports that Damba Housing Estate, which is part of Gusau town, the Zamfara State capital, has been attacked by bandits on several occasions.
Many people were kidnapped in the area in the last four years, a situation that has forced many people to relocate to other places for fear of the bandits’ attacks.
In February 2022, terrorists invaded the estate and abducted the wife and two children of a Director of Finance in the Zamfara State Ministry of Finance, Sirajo Hassan.
Two vigilantes sustained gunshot injuries and residents of the area have been in fear over the persistent terrorists attacks, calling on the security agents to come to their aid.
