Sporting Lagos coach Paul Offor is optimistic the team will return to winning ways in the Nigeria Premier Football League following their poor run in the topflight recently, PUNCH Sport Extra reports.
The Noisy Lagosians as they are fondly called are yet to win any of their last five matches.
Their poor run of results saw them drop into the relegation zone on Sunday after losing 2-0 to Enyimba in a match-day 17 game in Aba.
Sporting Lagos made a dream start to life in the NPFL with a 2-0 home win against Gombe United in October and followed it up with a goalless draw against Akwa United in Uyo. However, they have only won four games so far this season, drawing five and losing seven.
After the defeat in Aba, Offor lamented injuries that have plagued his team this term.
“We shouldn’t be conceding the type of goals we are conceding right now. We started the season well and we were unfortunate with injuries. We had lots of injuries that gave us instability and we kept using different line ups and different set ups as a way of adjusting to the situation,” Offor said.
“Fortunately, right now we have everybody now and we have to start again. The players know our current position in the table is not helping us but like I told them during the break, they have to look away from the table, we have to look at ourselves and demand more from ourselves and get results, that’s the only way we can get out of where we are,” he added.
Offor’s side currently sit 18th on the table with 17 points after 16 games. They have an outstanding game against Rivers United.
The 35-year-old guided Sporting Lagos from the Nigeria National League to the NPFL last year, a few months after joining them from Cotonou-based Premier League club, Djeffa FC. Offor had also worked with Warri Wolves in the NNL.
