Mr Pedro added that he hoped that the suspended minister would learn a hard lesson from her mistakes, particularly on how to conduct herself as a public officer
Edu was suspended by President Bola Tinubu on Monday and is being probed over allegations that she approved the transfer of funds from the ministry to a private account. She has since been questioned by the EFCC.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Pedro said he first met Edu when she was introduced as a party women leader candidate in 2022.
“She exuded confidence, was articulate, knew what she wanted, and appeared focused, determined, and ambitious,” he said.
Pedro added that Edu campaigned vigorously for the APC ahead of the 2023 elections.
“Betta worked very hard during the campaign. She mobilised women, campaigned nationwide, and attended most events,” he noted.
While saying the investigation into her alleged wrongdoings is appropriate, Pedro said he hopes Edu would learn a lesson.
“This is as it should be. I hope and pray that at the end of the day, she would have learned a hard lesson on how to conduct herself as a public officer and navigate the banana peels in the corridors of power,” he noted.
“I feel really sorry for her for the mess she finds herself in. I asked myself what if she’s my daughter? Would I disown her? She’s a promising bright star who could have served this nation in higher capacities,” he said.
The former deputy governor advised young political appointees to seek out credible mentors to guide them in office.
“My advice is to seek a mentor with credibility who will guide you on navigating public office,” Pedro said.
He urged young Nigerians not to be discouraged from public service by Edu’s case.
“There are still many dedicated young people interested in serving, not for money or power, but to serve Nigeria. I urge you not to be discouraged,” Pedro concluded.
