This was disclosed on Thursday when the Comptroller-General of the NIS, Wuraola Adepoju, paid a courtesy visit to the Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, in his office at the National Assembly complex in Abuja.
Senator Barau, while responding to the request of the NIS boss, said he would facilitate the establishment of the school for the training and retraining of the personnel of the service.
He said, “I was contacted some weeks ago about the possibility of establishing a modern NIS training school in Bichi, Kano North. Everybody knows the importance of the NIS to our country. The service should be supported by all and sundry.
“It is against this background that I want to assure you that my office will facilitate the establishment of the training school from A to Z. By God’s grace, we will ensure that it is constructed and equipped for the training and retraining of the NIS personnel.
“When established, he said the training centre will place the NIS in the best position to perform optimally. The centre would be located in Bichi Local Government Area of Kano North Senatorial District.”
Earlier, the NIS boss had solicited the assistance of the Deputy President of the Senate towards the establishment of the training school.
Commending Barau for the project, she said, “We are extremely grateful for this. Training is crucial to manpower development. Without training, no matter the level of sophistication of equipment, the productivity will be poor. Training will enable us to maximise the usage of the technology at our disposal.
“The Nigeria Immigration Service has always emphasized training. We are glad for this goodwill you have extended to the NIS. We will continue to do our best in discharging our duties for the safety of our borders. We are deploying technology for the surveillance of the country’s borders.”
