NiMet said that over the northern region and North-Central states, the forecast includes a horizontal visibility range of 2 – 5 km, posing potential risks for road and air travel. It emphasized the necessity for precautions in light of the suspended dust particles.
“On Friday 12th Moderate Dust Haze with a horizontal visibility range of 2 – 5 km over the Northern region and the North Central states throughout the forecast period
“Patches of clouds in the hazy atmosphere are expected in the morning hours over the inland cities of the South and the coastal states with prospects of localized thunderstorms over parts of Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers states in the afternoon/evening periods,” the agency said.
It urged the general public that, “People with asthma and other respiratory issues should exercise caution and limit outdoor exposure due to the present weather conditions.”
Additionally, NiMet stressed the need for proactive measures among airline operators, encouraging them to stay updated with the latest weather reports from NiMet to ensure effective operational planning.
It also advised disaster risk managers, agencies, and individuals to take proactive steps to avert potential loss of lives and property.
