The Supreme Court, on Monday, reserved judgment on the appeal filed by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Tonye Cole, challenging the election of Governor Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Fubara polled 302,614 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Cole, who polled 95,274 votes.
Before his appeal at the Supreme Court, Cole had approached the election tribunal and the Court of Appeal to invalidate Fubara’s election.
He, however, lost at the two lower courts, prompting him to approach the Supreme Court.
On Monday, a five-member panel of the apex court led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun also reserved judgment in the appeal to a date to be communicated to parties.
Meanwhile, the apex court, on Monday, dismissed the appeal by the Allied People’s Movement against Fubara’s victory.
The counsel for the APM and its candidate in the March 18 election, Innocent Kere, at proceedings on Monday opted to withdraw the appeal.
The appeal was subsequently dismissed by the apex court.
