Rotimi called for security intervention to address the rising criminality in Ekiti State, particularly in Ekiti North 1 (Ikole/Oye) Federal Constituency.
He informed his colleagues about the attack in the Oke-Ako area, where two traditional rulers, the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, were murdered.
He said, “On Monday, January 29, 2024, these criminals carried out a dastardly attack in the Oke-Ako area in Ikole Local Government Area resulting in the death of two traditional rulers: the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti Oba Olatunji Samuel Olusola, and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti Oba David Babatunde Ogunsola and leaving a host of others with life-threatening injuries.”
The House resolved to deploy soldiers to the Oke-Ako area, urging the Chief of Army Staff to enhance security and prevent further attacks.
The lawmakers directed security agencies to deploy more officials to Ekiti North 1 and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
Additionally, the Ministry of Works and FERMA were directed to rehabilitate roads in the constituency, addressing the broader concerns of insecurity and infrastructure.
On the same day the two traditional rulers were killed, gunmen abducted schoolchildren in Emure Local Government Area of Ekiti State on Monday.
The incident took place as the children were traveling from Emure Ekiti to Eporo Ekiti.
