Torino are lining up a possible loan move for Nigerian striker David Okere before the close of the January transfer window, just as Genoa confirmed the signing of young striker David Ankeye on a permanent deal from Moldovan Super Liga side Sheriff Tiraspol, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
According to Sky Sport Italia and Calciomercato.com, Okereke is considered to be Torino’s first choice alternative to Rafael Mir, whom the Italian club have been pushing to sign from Sevilla in recent weeks
Okereke scored seven Serie A goals in an out-of-their-depth Cremonese side in 2022/23. He has since gone on to make 17 appearances in Serie B this season, adding a further two league goals to his tally.
Last summer, Cremonese demanded a transfer fee of €6m for Okereke, who has played most of his football in Italy with Cremonese, Spezia, Venezia, Cosenza and Lavagnese among the teams he starred for.
They bought the forward for €5m from Belgian team Club Brugge and want profit.
Brugge made a loss on this transfer after they bought him for a record €8m in the 2019/20 season from Serie B club Spezia.
The current valuation of the 26-year-old Okereke by Transfermarkt is €2.7m.
Meanwhile, Genoa paid a fee in the region of €3m to secure Ankeye’s services on a three-and-a-half-year contract.
Ankeye completed his medicals with the Rossoblu on Wednesday morning before the club’s official announcement. He will wear the No.30 shirt during his first few months in Serie A.
The 21-year-old Nigerian has been in fine form in the Moldovan Super Liga this season, registering five goals from 13 appearances. Only five of those outings were as a starter.
Anyeke has enjoyed his first experiences in European competitions as well, grabbing a goal and an assist in the Europa League group stages, as well as two goals in the Champions League qualifying rounds in the summer.
