Ride-hailing involves the process where a customer requests a personalised ride online, typically through a smartphone application.
Essentially, it operates similarly to a traditional taxi service.
The customer initiates the ride through a ride-hailing platform, acting as an intermediary third party that facilitates the service between the driver and the passenger
Recall that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, had stated in a media chat on Monday, January 22nd, that commercial drivers and vehicles in the FCT would henceforth be registered, in efforts to curb the insecurity in the nation’s capital.
“What we are trying to do now which we could not do in December but which by the grace of God, by this February, we think we will achieve, is we are not going to allow vehicles that are not with FCT colour, which is being registered by the FCT, to ply commercially”, he said.
In a statement on Sunday, the Transport Secretariat through its Public Transport Management Scheme, under the Directorate of Road Traffic Services, said other car services were expected to initiate licensing processes, to avoid being banned from operating.
They further explained that the authorization of the NAIRAXI Mobile App and Bolt is based on their top-notch digital transport and logistics services in the FCT, adding that the FCTA will equally begin to clamp down on unlicensed operators in the FCT.
“The Administration will soon commence enforcement operations on non-compliant operators, and others are expected to initiate their licensing processes to avoid being banned from operating in the FCT.
The licensing of NAIRAXI and Bolt will improve and regulate e-ride-hailing operations while elevating service excellence in the FCT. The Public Transport Management Scheme also warns of a potential ban on operators without the FCTA Public Transport Management License”.
Bolt is one of the leading transportation mobility companies in the world, with operations in 500 cities, more than 3 million drivers, and over 150 million customers.
NAIRAXI on the other hand, is an indigenous mobility tech company and won the innovator’s competition organized by the Nigerian Communications Commission in February 2023.
