The agency disclosed this via its X handle, on Monday.
According to the report, dense dust haze is expected to significantly reduce horizontal visibility to 1km or less in the northern region on Tuesday.
The report also projected moderate dust haze with a horizontal visibility range of 1km to 3km, and localised visibility of less than or equal to 1km over the North Central and Southern regions during the forecast period.
“For Wednesday, thick dust haze is expected to reduce horizontal visibility to 1km or less in the northern region and North Central states within the forecast period.
“Moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility range of 1km to 3km and localized visibility of less than or equal to 1km is expected over the Inland region and coastal areas of the South throughout the forecast period,” the report reads.
For Thursday, NiMet projected the persistence of thick to moderate dust haze with reduced horizontal visibility to 1km or less in the North and North Central regions during the forecast period.
In the Southern Inland region, there is an expectation of moderate dust haze with a horizontal visibility range of 1km to 3km and localized visibility of less than or equal to 1km.
Moreover, NiMet also anticipates early morning mist or fog patches over the coastal areas of the South, with intervals of cloud appearing in the hazy atmosphere later in the day.
The agency urged the public to use face masks where possible.
This warning comes amidst concerns about the impact of suspended dust on respiratory health, particularly for those with pre-existing conditions.
In light of the present weather conditions, individuals with respiratory issues have been advised to exercise caution and take necessary precautions to protect themselves.
This includes minimizing outdoor activities and utilizing appropriate protective measures to mitigate potential health risks.
Furthermore, special emphasis has been placed on the need for children and the elderly to wear warm clothing at night, as temperatures may drop significantly. This advice aims to safeguard vulnerable members of the population from potential cold-related illnesses.
In addition, the advisory underscores the importance of paying special attention to skin, eyes, and lips, recommending regular moisturization of the skin as often as possible.
Airline operators were also urged to obtain updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet to facilitate effective planning and decision-making in their operations.
