President Bola Tinubu, represented by his chief of staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; and a former Governor of Osun State, Bisi Akande, were among the dignitaries who attended the unveiling of a book titled, Nigerian Public Discourse: The Interplay Of Empirical Evidence and Hyperbole, written by the immediate past Minister of Works and Housing, Babajide Fashola, at Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos State, during the week.
The book is said to showcase the nuances in public policy, issues in governance, and attempts to proffer solutions to the numerous problems facing the country.
Speaking at the event, Gbajabiamila applauded Fashola’s ability to chronicle the plights of the nation.
He said, “I want to commend BRF for this great work, as he is known for unravelling tough issues in our polity. As the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, I attempted to curb the menace of social media. The ninth assembly was resisted very vigorously by civil society. But, they have come to roost, and I believe we are all on the same page now.
“Social media is a mess. We are living through the most difficult periods of our history. The world is changing all around us. Amidst these challenges, we are confronted by difficult policy choices and decisions that must be made to ensure our children’s future and our country’s prospects.”
In his review of the book, a financial expert, Opeyemi Agbaje, noted that the book was necessary at this time to initiate public discussions on national development which cannot be over-emphasised, especially with the realities of the country today.
