Southampton should be able to extend their unbeaten run and beat Bristol City by a scoreline of 0-2
Free-scoring Saints may find it tougher against Robins
Bristol City finally ended their six-game winless run with Saturday’s victory but Southampton are now unbeaten in 25 matches across all competitions.
As a result, Southampton are the strong favourite to be the winner of this clash. But with such short odds, I am looking into the goals market for the first of my tips.
The hosts are without a win in three on home soil with two of those games ending in 1-0 defeat. The most recent being against the side that is one place and one point behind their opponent here so is a strong form line.
For their part three of their last four wins on the road have by either a 1-0 or 2-0 scoreline. Looking at the stats seven of the Saints’ last eight away games have seen under 2.5 goals return as a winner. The reverse fixture was also 1-0.
Bet 1: Under 2.5 Goals in Over/Under @ 1.90 with Bet9ja
Saints more like sinners this season
Southampton have a reputation for their patient possession-based football. A style which is bringing them great success this term but they are not afraid of doing the dirty side of the game too.
Only two sides have picked up more yellow cards than the Saints’ tally of 76 this season. They have also had two players sent off. Russell Martin has seen three or more of his players booked in exactly half of their 30 league games this term, no side has a higher percentage.
Matt Donohue is the referee and he has issued the second-highest number of yellow cards in the Championship this season with 78, an average of 4.33. Southampton had three players booked in the first half of the most recent head-to-head.
Bet 2: Southampton Over 2.5 Cards @ 2.10 with bet365
When Southampton are in need, they rely on AA
When Southampton were relegated from the Premier League last season they knew they already had a vital ingredient in bouncing straight back. That was a goalscorer and that player is Adam Armstrong.
In his last season in the Championship, the 27-year-old plundered 28 goals for Blackburn Rovers. This time round he already has 15 goals from his 30 appearances and can add to that tally at Ashton Gate.
Bet 3: Adam Armstrong to score @ 2.50 with bet365
Knight in Shining Armour
For the last of my tips I am going into the player prop market. Jason Knight is showing a real return to form and making his presence felt in the opposition penalty area.
The 22-year-old scored his side’s opening goal at the weekend, picking up a pinpoint through ball before rounding Tom Glover and slotting into an empty goal. That is the fifth league game in the last six where he has had at least one shot on target.
Bet 4: Jason Knight Over 0.5 Shots on Target @ 2.10 with bet365
