This was according to a statement on Saturday by the Assistant Public Relations Officer, AFAN, Salisu Mukhtar.
He said that the claim by the group that they were working in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development confirms that they were fraudulent because the FMARD has been renamed.
The statement read in part, “The Nigerian farmers and the general public are hereby warned that some unscrupulous people were seeking to defraud farmers by asking them to pay the sum of 2,000 purportedly belonging to AFAN.
“The false claim that they were working in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development confirms that they are fraudulent because the FMARD has been renamed,” Mukhtar said.
Mukhtar warned the general public to refrain from entering into any dealings with the group.
“All farmers and the general public are unequivocally warned not to enter into any dealings with anyone claiming to take any money from them for registration to obtain any input supply or activity under,” he concluded.
AFAN was founded in 2004 as the apex and umbrella body for farmers and commodity associations in Nigeria.
AFAN serves as a unifying force that brings Nigerian farmers together working towards sustainable agricultural development.
