A gospel music artiste, Laolu Gbenjo, has said that as a result of the dire economic situation in the country, he won’t be able to upgrade his musical instruments like he usually does.
In an interview with Sunday Scoop, he said, “The economic situation of the country is affecting everyone, including me, because we buy all our equipment in the United States of America, and Europe.
“And, the exchange rate is not favourable. A microphone we last bought for N300,00 is now sold for N1.5m. I usually upgrade all my equipment every two years.
“As a busy band, we go for shows two or three times a week, and the more we use the equipment, the more the wear and tear.
“Also, for one to be on the top of one’s game in the industry, one has to keep upgrading; otherwise, one’s sound would be affected. I ought to upgrade my equipment this year, but I don’t think that will be possible.”
Baring his mind on the issue of copyright infringement, Gbenjo said, “It happens once in a while, but we find a way to settle it.
“However, I don’t have any issue with people playing or singing my song; rather, it makes the song even more popular.
“Whenever I release any song, I put it out there, and I really don’t mind if anybody uses it. The problem is that some people are just lazy, and don’t think of how to improve their craft.”
