The fifth edition of the Nigeria Cricket Federation T20i invitational tournament will be played between four teams from February 23 to March 4 at the Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval in Lagos, the NCF has announced.
Hosts and defending champions Nigeria will be joined by last year’s runners up Rwanda, Sierra Leone and new entrants Tanzania for this year’s tournament.
Cameroon and Ghana are the two other teams that played the five-team tournament last year but are missing in action this time around.
Currently placed 19th in the world, Tanzania are in the tournament as the highest-ranked team, as they hope to give hosts Nigeria and 2022 champions Rwanda a run for their money.
Rwanda, who are ranked 26th, are next to Tanzania while Nigeria are 29th in the world with Sierra Leone 10 places behind the Female Yellow Greens in 39.
The Female Yellow Greens are currently training in Benin, where most of the national team players have just competed in the South-South Female Cricket League which was won by Idia Royals last Sunday.
To win the tournament last year, Leke Oyede’s side dethroned Rwanda with a nine-run win.
The tournament is oganised annually by the NCF in commemoration of the International Women’s Day celebration, and the tournament will offer more this year as all the teams prepare for the African Games which holds from March 8 to 23 in Ghana.
