A 35-year-old audio engineer, Elijah Olorunpimi, who allegedly defrauded his elder brother of N11m, under false pretence of helping him procure a Canadian visa, was on Monday arraigned before the Tinubu Magistrate Court on Lagos Island.
The defendant is facing four counts of conspiracy, stealing, obtaining, and breach of peace preferred against him by the police.
Our correspondent gathered that the defendant and others still at large conspired to swindle his 46-year-old elder brother, Steve Olorunpomi, who is a pastor, out of the sum of N11m, with a promise to help him get a Canadian visa.
The prosecutor, ASP Francis Igninosa, told the court that the incident took place on April 25, 2023, at Animashaun Street, Alapere area of Lagos State.
He said the defendant converted the said sum to his use.
Igbinosa said the defendant obtained the money from Olorunpomi knowing that the presentation he made that he would help the victim procure a Canadian visa was false
The prosecutor also told the court that the defendant and others now at large conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.
According to the prosecutor, the offences committed contravened Sections 411, 287 (9) (d), 314, and 168 (d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos 2015.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Azeez Alogba granted him bail in the sum of N 500,000, with two sureties in like sum.
Alogba adjourned the case to February 22, for mention.
