Seeing Hearts Foundation has bought the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination for 10 blind students.
A statement by the foundation said it partnered with the National Association of the Blind to shortlist 10 eligible students who were indigent, had a track record of academic excellence, and had demonstrated a strong commitment to pursue further studies despite negative stereotypes about their sight.
The founder of the Foundation, Ms. Tope Songosonu, in an interview said, “Equality, and inclusion are key to our work at Seeing Hearts Foundation and we want to ensure we provide wholistic support to visually impaired students who are from indigent backgrounds to achieve their full potential.
“These beneficiaries have struggled to acquire secondary education and obtained excellent results, despite the many challenges that they face. Our decision to finance their JAMB Examination is in alignment with our objective to create an enabling environment for every visually impaired person to thrive.”
She reiterated the foundation’s commitment to continually empower indigent, visually impaired people, one inclusive step at a time.
Songosonu also added that the Foundation exists to provide 360 degrees of support to poor people who suffer from blindness including financial support, provision of quality education, quality healthcare, and eye care as well as advocacy and community engagement amongst several others.
She explained that if the visually impaired were not supported, it would limit their potential other negativities.”
The statement added that the Seeing Hearts Foundation was registered both in the UK and Nigeria to empower visually impaired people across Nigeria.
