A social critic, Mr Oliver Fejiro, alleged on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, that the Youth Commissioner was found with a sack containing guns, which were handed over to Ekpan Police Station.
Fejiro also alleged that the Commissioner had four guns, and ordered one of his boys to use the guns to murder a policeman in Delta State
In a petition by Agbateyiniro’s lawyer, Mr Lawrence Erewele, addressed to the Inspector General of Police dated February 21, 2024, and made available to journalists on Saturday in Asaba, the Commissioner said he does not deal in guns nor has he ever been involved in the criminal and scandalous activity as stated by Fejiro.
In the petition, titled “A Case of Criminal Defamation of Character and Criminal Intimidation Against Mr Fejiro Oliver,” Agbateyiniro said that the allegations were not only grave but also capable of inciting the public and the Nigeria Police against him (the commissioner), who is a public servant.
“Our client has therefore and as so demands that you kindly investigate this criminal defamation with the purpose of the law taking its full course.” the petition read in part.
Also, the Delta State Police described the recent report on social media by Mr. Fejiro Oliver as mischievous and fake.
A statement by the Delta State Police spokesman, Mr Edafe Bright, explained that after a careful analysis of the write-up, it was obvious that the writer was being mischievous, noting that the command does not wish to go into any argument with him on the issue.
Edafe said that no such incident was recorded in the command, just as the write-up was not only mischievous but laughable.
According to Edafe, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr Abaniwonda Olufemi, the police will not tolerate any false or misleading news by mischief makers, anyone found wanting will be identified, arrested, and duly prosecuted following the law.
“Members of the public are advised to disregard the publication completely as it is misleading and mischievous, and the intent of writing such a false and non-existent incident is known only to the writer.
“Members of the public, the media, and journalists are also advised to continue to confirm such publications from the Command through the Office of the Delta State Police Command Public Relations Officer, so they can be properly informed,” the statement stated.
