Celtics build an early lead
Boston has a +17.4 net rating in their last 10 first quarters. They are the heavy favourite in pre-game odds for Tuesday’s contest with the Sixers, which comes as no surprise.
With a 2-1 head-to-head advantage in the season series, the Celtics would be favoured even if Embiid was suiting up. The 76ers, though, have a net rating of -12.2 over their last 10 first quarters, and their net rating drops to -0.7 when the reigning MVP is absent.
The spread is too large to take the Celtics for the whole game. Instead, we like the value with the Celtics to cover in the first quarter.
Bet 1: Boston Celtics -4.5 in the first quarter
Harris disappoints once again
The Sixers needed Tobias Harris to step up when Embiid got hurt, but he failed to deliver. The former Clipper has averaged under 14 points per game over the last 10, while shooting just 41.6% from the field under 32% from beyond the arc.
Harris matches up against the third-best defence in the NBA. He’s got a long history of underperforming in the biggest games. Additionally, he’s gone under this line in four straight appearances, including making just three field goals on 11 shots against the Bucks on Sunday.
Bet 2: Tobias Harris under 15.5 points
Tatum gets back to his best on the boards
Jayson Tatum has gone under this line in each of his last two games, but that just gives us a bit more margin for error here. He has been averaging 8.5 rebounds per game this season.
The All-Star forward had 15 rebounds in a game against the Sixers earlier this season, and should put up numbers here. Without Embiid’s size in the middle, Philadelphia struggle in rebounding and are 20th in rebounding rate in 2023-24.
Bet 3: Jayson Tatum over 7.5 rebounds
