PUNCH, Nigeria’s foremost newspaper, clocked 50 on March 18 last year but its board of directors moved the 50th-anniversary celebration to this year because the anniversary month fell within an election month and year.
AbdulRazaq who commended the PUNCH for its exemplary contributions to the Nigerian media industry, described it as one of the best newspaper brands in Africa in a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Tuesday.
“The Governor joins the entire country to felicitate the management and staff of the Punch newspapers on the anniversary, which he says is a celebration of excellence, hard work, tenacity of purpose, and consistent commitment to ethical journalism.”
The governor urged the PUNCH to keep the flag flying amidst renewed commitment to national unity, peace and security through robust and ethical media practices.
Recalling its roles in Nigeria’s nation-building efforts, Governor AbdulRazaq commends the PUNCH newspaper for being a reliable partner in the country’s pursuit of a better life for the citizenry and promotion of democratic values, such as free press, human rights, responsible citizenship, and accountable government.
In the same vein, Mutfwang in a statement by the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Musa Ashoms, applauded the company for its vibrant and impactful media practice over the past five decades.
