Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested 36 suspected internet fraudsters at Gbokoniyin and Yetedo areas of Abeokuta in Ogun State on Monday.
This was disclosed in a statement posted on the agency’s X handle on Wednesday.
The statement read, “Operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested 36 suspected internet fraudsters in Ogun State.
“They were arrested on Monday, February 26, 2024, at Gbokoniyin and Yetedo areas of Abeokuta in Ogun State, following actionable intelligence gathered and worked upon by the commission.”
According to the statement, items recovered from the suspects include nine vehicles, 14 laptops, 49 mobile phones and incriminating documents.
It added that the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
PUNCH Online had reported on February 15 that the EFCC arrested 14 individuals suspected of internet fraud at a “Yahoo Academy” in Makurdi, Benue State.
The suspects were arrested when operatives from the Makurdi Zonal Command of EFCC raided a three-bedroom apartment along Achusa Road, Benue State, believed to be a training centre for internet fraud trainees.
