Tukur, an indigene of the state, and 10 other justices were sworn in on Monday as Justices of the apex court.
Radda’s congratulatory message is contained in a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Mohammed; a copy of which was made available to PUNCH on Wednesday.
Felicitating with Tukur who is the second Katsina State indigene to be appointed as a justice of the apex court, Radda said the eminent Katsina judge deserves the elevation he got to the bench of Nigeria’s highest court.
He said that Tukur’s knowledge of various legal issues is deep and profoundly vast, just as his ability to study and analyse litigations brought before him preparatory to giving sound judgments is extraordinary.
“The elevation of Justice Yammama Tukur to the bench of the apex court is one that every Katsina indigene is celebrating. We wish him success as he adjudicates on cases to be brought before him, as a Supreme Court Justice, now,” Radda said.
Tukur, who hails from Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State. was born on April 7, 1960.
He began his educational career at the Dudi Primary School, Malumfashi, Katsina State, and later Government Secondary School, Malumfashi, Katsina State.
He obtained his LL.B in Law from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1982, before proceeding to the Nigerian Law School, Lagos State, for his BL in 1983.
He was appointed as a Judge of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory on April 4, 2007, and later elevated to the Court of Appeal on March 24, 2014.
Tukur was a member of the Appeal Court panel that unanimously nullified the election and return of all candidates of the All Progressives Congress in Zamfara State in 2019.
He read the lead judgment affirming the N50 million fine imposed on Senator Elisha Abbo following the assault of Ms. Osimibibra Warmate at a sex gadgets shop in Abuja.
He also read the lead judgment invalidating the powers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency to impose fines/penalties on traffic offenders.
Before his appointment, Tukur was ranked number 41 in the Seniority list of the appellate court.
