The Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos, on Wednesday, matriculated 12,873 students for its 2023/2024 academic session.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, said over 50,000 applicants applied to the university.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Olatunji-Bello was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adenike Boyo, at the event.
She advised the matriculating students to focus on their studies so as not to lose the huge opportunity of getting a university education.
“It is important for me to mention that LASU is a student-centred university.
“It is a place for the grooming of generational leaders.
“Our objective is to produce graduates who will be catalysts to the process of transformation of the State to a greater Lagos,” she said.
She said her administration had zero tolerance for sexual and gender-based violence.
“This informed our decision to establish the Directorate of Response and Preventive of Sexual and Gender-based Violence.
“Do not keep silent when you are harassed or assaulted in any manner. If you see something, say something.
“To make your stay successful and productive, show respect to your colleagues and staff in the university,” Olatunji-Bello said.
The Dean of the Students’ Affairs Division, Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, said, “I urge all the new students to shun anti-social behaviours such as bullying, assaults, violence, cultism, examination malpractice, indecent dressing and sexual harassment within and outside the campus.”
