The lone accident involved one unidentified commercial driver of a Mercedes truck.
It was gathered that the accident occurred at about 9:30am and the cause of the crash was attributed to excessive speed and loss of control.
An eyewitness said the driver, who was on top speed, lost control and rammed into a big gutter by the roadside and crashed.
Confirming the accident, the acting Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State, Margaret Onabe, said two male adults were involved in the crash.
Onabe said, “The cause of the crash was attributed to excessive speed and loss of control.
“According to eyewitnesses, the driver was speeding, lost control, and rammed into a big gutter by the roadside, and crashed
“Two male adults (the driver and his conductor) were killed. The dead victims were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Mortuary, Ihiala by good Samaritans before the arrival of the FRSC rescue team.
“However, the FRSC rescue team has removed the debris littered on the expressway, and normalcy in human and vehicular movement has been restored.
“The Sector Commander Anambra State, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, sympathised with the family of the dead victims.
“He warned motorists to desist from excessive speed and drive within the safe speed limit they can control. Let us drive to stay alive, road safety is everyone’s responsibility.”
