While disbursing the cash, Shehu said it is meant as a take-off capital for small-scale businesses, toward alleviating the current economic hardship.
Presenting the money at a ceremony held at the Fagge Model Primary School, Kano, Shehu said the objective of the gesture is to also make the beneficiaries to be self-reliant.
According to him, 80 people from Fagge C ward and Rijiyar Lemo are to benefit from the empowerment, comprising both women and men.
He said, “As we pledged during our campaign that we would empower women and youths, with finance to start up small-scale businesses, today we are fulfilling that promise.
“Some of you will receive N200,000, some N150,000, while others will receive N100,000 each.”
The lawmaker urged the beneficiaries to make adequate use of the financial empowerment.
“I hope that next year by this time, the beneficiaries of this gesture will be able to support others. I pray to Allah (SWT) to bless your business and bring more goodies to our community, Kano State and the nation at large,” he said.
According to him, by the end of March this year, other wards of Fagge Federal Constituency would also benefit from the same gesture.
In her remarks, Hajiya Zuwaira Abubakar Tarauni, Kano State NNPP Women leader, urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the empowerment gesture.
“You should ensure that you embark on small-scale businesses, (SMEs) so that you can help yourself and your family. I therefore urge you not to relent in the pursuit of your dreams”, Tarauni added.
