Abia North senatorial district constituents have continued to express their excitement over the constituency projects their representative at the upper chamber of the National Assembly, Orji Uzor Kalu, has been delivering to them, commending the senator for a job well done.
Determined to end hunger, insecurity and infrastructure deficits in Abia North, Kalu recently distributed over 250,000 bags of grains, flour and Toyota Hilux vans to communities within the district.
This was in addition to food and security interventions and the commissioning of more newly completed roads and school infrastructures within Abia North.
Recall that early this year, Kalu handed over security patrol vehicles, which he personally procured to the Ohafia, Isiukwuato and Igbere, Bende Area Commands of the Police Force in Abia North and the Igbere Vigilante group.
Admonishing his constituents to shun crimes and other forms of violence, Kalu said the gesture will stem the tide of insecurity.
As a follow-up to tackle hunger, occasioned by the nation’s economic crisis, the former governor of Abia State distributed a total of 250,000 bags of rice, beans and garri to his constituents, drawn from the five local government areas of the constituency.
And seeing the need to execute more infrastructural projects, Kalu has since the beginning of the New Year also commissioned newly constructed and renovated infrastructures such as schools and roads including a cottage industry.
As a result therefore, the ‘Ndi Ibe’ Ohafia Development Union, in a letter of appreciation, signed by the NDU Secretary-General, Chief Stephen O. Idika, on behalf of the community, applauded the former governor of Abia State for attracting the construction of a block of three-classrooms to Ndi Ibe Community School, and for installing solar street lights in strategic locations across the community.
The letter reads in part, “We also appreciate the fact that you did not only allocate these facilities, but also ensured that they are actually installed and constructed in our community.
“The story of the development of the present day Ndi Ibe Ohafia cannot be complete without mentioning your name, as we recall that you were also instrumental to the construction of the asphalt road that passed through our community and the engagement of our sons in governance”.
Also thanking Kalu for renovating schools in Ibom village of Arochukwu, a good governance advocate, Madam Oyidia Ogbonna, and other residents of the village testified that under Kalu’s senatorial leadership, school classrooms, especially, that of Aggrey Memorial Secondary School, Arochukwu, have been refurbished to provide a conducive learning environment for students.
Ogbonna said that Kalu’s commitment to the community goes beyond just education, adding, “In addition to the school renovations, he has also installed solar street lights in the area, though residents note that more lights are needed.
“The gesture has been met with gratitude and appreciation from the residents of Ibom village, who see Kalu as a senator who truly cares about their well-being.”
Taking to his official Facebook page, Kalu, who was the former Senate Chief Whip and now chairman, Senate Committee on Privatisation, expressed his excitement that the roads he built for his constituents will aid the massive movement of farm products from the rural to urban areas and equally boost economic activities in their respective areas.
He said, “The agricultural sector in my constituency experienced a significant boost, leading to increased food production and improved livelihoods for the farmers. This and other gestures are consolidatory effort to the over 2000 grain and cassava processing machines which I shared amongst low income farmers last year.”
