This was contained in a press statement issued on Wednesday by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations 301 Artillery Regiment Gombe, Captain Mazinho Attah, adding that the training was geared towards improving the handling of weapons by officers.
The regiment, code-named The Vulcans, had its last range classification in August 2023.
Attah disclosed that the range classification would be held from Monday 25th to Thursday 28th March 2024 by 6am.
The statement partly read, “In line with the Nigerian Army Training Directive for Year 2024, the 301 Artillery Regiment (General Support), Gombe will conduct its first schedule Range Classification Exercise from Monday 25 Thursday 28 March 2024 at 301 Artillery (General Support) Small Arms Range in Malete Liji Area, Yamaltu – Deba Local Government Area, Gombe State by 0600hrs daily.
“The aim is to improve the weapon handling capacity of its personnel. As a precautionary measure, residents in the Malete – Liji. Range area are kindly urged not to panic on hearing sounds of weapons fired and to equally keep off the area within the stated period.”
In February, the Special Military Taskforce in charge of maintaining peace in Plateau state said its troops raided some mountains in the Mangu Local Government Area of the state and uncovered a weapon factory in the area.
The spokesman for the Military Taskforce, Captain Oya James, who disclosed this in a statement said that items recovered in the factory during the operation included arms and ammunition of assorted types and machines while one suspect was also arrested.
