The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has felicitated members of the Muslim community and the generality of the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el Fitri festival.
In a statement issued on his behalf by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor
explained that the last one month, which was evidently devoted to worship, charity and fraternity was a rare opportunity for Muslims to regain spiritual strength and moral fortitude needed to withstand contemporary socioeconomic challenges.
The Vice Chancellor, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West Africa Universities (AWAU), urged members of the Muslim community to ensure that they perpetuate all the fascinating lessons derived from observing the Ramadan fast.
Prof. Egbewole said that he was particularly optimistic that members of the University Muslim community had renewed their faith in Allah and the nation’s future . He noted that the series of “spiritual diets” that they were fed with during the month were intended to rebuild them for personal greatness and collective glory.
The Vice Chancellor specifically appealed to Muslims worldwide and their friends not to return to the path of perversion, which they abandoned during the month, saying that those who return to one ungodly act or the other would not be regarded as being among those who truly obeyed Allah with their participation in the month-long fast.
Speaking on the state and prospect of the nation’s most sought-after University, Prof. Egbewole thanked members of the institution’s community, particularly staff and students, for the prevailing peace on the campus as he said that the harmonious situation reflects the level of maturity obtainable among them.
While urging staff and students of the University to sustain the peace of the campus, Prof. Egbewole that his administration would continue to pursue programmes and policies that would sustain peaceful coexistence and industrial harmony.
