In their separate 2024 Eid-el-Fitr messages, the state Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwumelie, and the state Commandant of NSCDC, Usman Alfadarai, expressed their commitment to ensuring hitch-free celebration in the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, in a statement she issued on behalf of the CP, said, “As we mark this important festival, the Abia State Police Command reaffirms our unwavering commitment to the safety and security of all residents and visitors in our state.
“Officers have been diligently working to provide adequate security measures to guarantee everyone’s before, during, and after the celebration. We have enhanced our presence in key areas and will be closely monitoring public gatherings and events to maintain peace and order.
“However, we also call upon all Muslim faithful and the general public to be vigilant and security-conscious. If you notice any suspicious individuals or activities, please do not hesitate to report them to the nearest police station. Your cooperation and vigilance are crucial in maintaining a safe and peaceful environment for all”.
Similarly in a statement issued by the Head, Public Relations Unit, NSCDC, Ndukwe Egwu, on behalf of the state Commandant, he said, “Ahead of the 2024 Eid – El Fitr celebration, the Abia State commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence has deployed an additional 800 officers and men serving in the state to beef up security to ensure a hitch free celebration.
The state commandant was said tonhave disclosed this at the command’s headquarters in Umuahia on Monday during the Weekly Mustard Parade.
He disclosed that the personnel that were deployed were drawn from Area Commands, Divisions, Tactical Units, and Special Forces to provide adequate backup to operatives in the field already carrying out routine security duties.”
He commended Officers and Men of the Command for what he described as a “splendid performance” in the just concluded Easter celebration and urged them to keep the flag flying.
