It was a jubilant atmosphere on Wednesday, April 10, 2023, as a former Minister of Foreign Affairs and high chief, Tom Ikimi, marked his 80th birthday in grand style.
The vibrant celebration took place at St Paul’s Catholic Church in the heart of Benin City, Edo State.
The event was graced by an array of dignitaries and royalty, including the the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi; Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki; the Esama of Benin Kingdom; Chief Gabriel Igbinedion; and a former governor of Edo State, Lucky Igbinedion.
Apparently happy to be witnessing a new age, Chief Ikimi radiated joy in a white attire, complemented with exquisite royal beads as he made a grand entrance into the church, receiving warm greetings from the guests in attendance.
The solemn ambiance of the celebration was further enhanced by a melodic hymn playing softly as he made his way in.
The Archbishop of the Abuja Catholic Archdiocese, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, accompanied by other bishops, presided over the thanksgiving service.
On his part, the Archbishop Emeritus of the Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan, Felix Job, delivered a message titled, ‘What a Life’.
After the service, the festivities continued with a reception, which featured a medley of performances and presentations to commemorate Chief Ikimi’s new chapter in life.
Governor Obaseki expressed heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the people and government of the state, honouring Chief Ikimi for his enduring legacy and contributions to society. He said, “On behalf of the people and government of Edo State, I congratulate High Chief Ikimi.”
