The Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, on Sunday, gave a marching order to security agencies in the state to ensure that criminal elements disrupting the peace of the state are fished out and brought to justice.
The governor’s order came on the heels of gunmen’s attack on Terwase Orbunde, the Chief of Staff to the immediate past governor, Samuel Ortom.
The gunmen kidnapped Orbunde’s wife, Abigail, and house help, Patience Ogute and demanded N100m ransom or they would kill the women.
Alia, reacting in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, said, “I am shocked and dismayed by this barbaric act.”
He said the incident reinforced the need for all hands to be on deck to secure Benue State.
Alia said he was committed to providing the necessary support for the security agencies to ensure the state was rid of criminals.
He said, “I have said this and I must keep saying it, security is and should be everyone’s concern. Law enforcement agencies and the government need information.
“Make it a culture that anytime you see something, you say something.”
Alia assured all Benue residents that security was a top priority in his administration and that matters of insecurity would soon be a thing of the past
