The mobile court in Oshodi has jailed a man identified simply as Paul for nine months for not using a pedestrian bridge and assaulting an official of the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps.
The state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a post on X on Thursday.
Wahab wrote, “Paul was apprehended on April 16 for not using the pedestrian bridge at Agbado Oke Odo, and in the process, he assaulted and wounded the enforcement personnel of LAGESC.
“The mobile court, sitting at Oshodi yesterday, sentenced him to nine months imprisonment.”
On Monday, the state government arrested and arraigned 76 persons for allegedly shunning pedestrian bridges in the Ojota, Ladipo, and Oshodi areas of the state.
Wahab who disclosed this said, “Seventy-six persons were apprehended today at Ojota, Ladipo and Oshodi for not using the pedestrian bridge. They have been charged to court for prosecution.”
The ministry had recently warned residents against shunning pedestrian bridges, as it described the crossing of major highways in the state by pedestrians as an offence.
