Nigerian striker, Victor Boniface, is on the radar of Premier League side Newcastle as the Magpies are wary of losing both Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson this summer, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Boniface has only spent a season with German champions, Bayer Leverkusen, but has long been linked with a move away from the club following an impressive debut season.
Boniface played a starring role as the Die Werkself won the Bundesliga title for the first time in their 120-year history, emerging as the club’s top scorer for the 2023/24 season despite missing three months of action.
The Nigeria international has scored 18 goals and provided nine assists in all competitions as Leverkusen continue their charge for a treble with the Europa League and DFB Pokal still to play for.
Meanwhile, reports have linked Isak with a move this summer, although, securing Europa League football would go some way to keeping the Swede in Tyneside for another season.
Isak has become the flavour of the month following an explosive purple patch. Eight goals in his last seven games has taken the Premier League by storm – with most now viewing him as one of the division’s best strikers.
Newcastle have now identified Boniface as a replacement if an offer comes that is too good to refuse or as a partner for Isak to lead the attack.
Long-serving No.9 Wilson’s recurring injury problems have been a thorn in the Magpies’ side in recent seasons and Eddie Howe’s side are prepared to let the England international leave in the summer window.
