Javier Tebas, the La Liga president, has weighed in on the GOAT debate between football legends, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Tebas said both Messi and Ronaldo are two of the “best players in history” but put the Inter Miami forward ‘first’ before the Portugal captain.
He spoke during a recent interview with Juan Jose Buscalia from DSports.
“Lionel and Cristiano are the best two players in history, with Messi as first. Players are important but not essential for a competition,” Tebas said.
“Trying to repeat it for so long, because Messi and Cristiano have been at the highest level since they were 18, it will never happen again, the stars have aligned,” Tebas added.
Messi and Ronaldo are widely regarded as two of the greatest footballers in the history of the game.
The duo won 13 Ballon d’Or among themselves and played against each other during their time in the Spanish LaLiga with Barcelona and Real Madrid, respectively.
