Nigeria and Benin Republic on Friday finalised an arrangement to operate a one-stop border post operation at the newly reopened Segbana/Tsamiya border, between Nigeria and Benin Republic.
Recalled that the Federal Government recently sent a delegation led by the Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister and Comptroller General of Customs with their counterpart from the Republic of Benin, where an agreement was reached on the modalities for the reopening of the border.
Addressing journalists at the Segbana border post on Friday, the Area Controller, Kebbi Area Command of the Nigeria Customs, Iheanacho Ojike, said this second visit was part of the process to facilitate the commencement of operation at the border.
He said, “Other issues discussed at the meeting include infrastructure development at the border.
“We also discussed on measures to improve the security situation, logistics and other measures that will facilitate the smooth running of the border operations”.
The Tsamiya/Segbana/border have been reopened for trade between the two countries, with the Nigeria federal government since concluded arrangement to build a dry port at the Tsamiya end of the border to serve the business interest of norther traders.
