As part of efforts to ensure that Muslims in Ogun State have a hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed no fewer than 2,150 of its personnel across the 20 local government areas of the state.
This was contained in a press statement made available to PUNCH Online on Friday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ogbonnaya Dyke.
Dyke noted further that the deployment was aimed at ensuring water-tight security during the celebration while stressing that prayer centres, public places and critical assets across the state top the priority for surveillance.
While quoting the NSCDC State Commandant, Idowu Ojelabi, Dyke added, “The state command has made adequate and concerted efforts at deploying all command’s tactical teams: the Counter-Terrorism unit; the Special Female Squad; the State Command’s Special Armed Squad; the Anti-Vandal Squad; the Mines and Steel Monitoring Squad; the Disaster and Rescue Management Unit amongst others for a peaceful celebration in and around Ogun State.
“He added that these tactical teams will cover public places such as praying grounds/centres; market places; recreation centres; IBEDC cables and assets; mining sites; black spots and other places across the State with high levels of human population and activities.”
The PRO also noted that Ojelabi had also instructed the divisional commandants to ensure the monitoring and supervision of their officers to be professional in the discharge of their duties.
He continued, “While congratulating the Executive Governor, Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun on behalf of the Commandant General, Ahmed Audi, the State Commandant admonished everyone to celebrate with moderation shunning all acts capable of causing disrepute and disregard to law and order in the State especially that wish may violate the purposefulness of all government assets and infrastructure in and around the Gateway State.
“Meanwhile, he noted that the corps will never hesitate to arrest, arraign and prosecute anyone suspected to be undermining the established laws of the land as spelt out by the Standard Operation Procedure of the Corps.”
He added that there would also be the deployment of NSCDC personnel to the venue of the Ojude-Oba festival in the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of the state while urging residents of the state to celebrate with caution and moderation.
“The state command implores all law-abiding citizens across the state to provide the necessary and required intelligence for the arrest of anyone found to be breaching public peace in the state in conjunction with relevant security agencies,” the statement added.
