Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has urged holidaymakers returning to the state for the Eid-el-Kabir festival to leverage the opportunity of their visit and inspect some of the ongoing projects initiated by his administration across the state.
Adeleke spoke in Osogbo, the state capital, on Saturday while receiving holidaymakers that returned to the state to celebrate Eid through a free train ride provided by the state government.
The free train, which left Lagos earlier, arrived at Osogbo Railway Station around 9:15pm with several passengers on board into the waiting arms of the officials of the state Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the ministry in charge of the programme.
Answering questions from journalists shortly after receiving the holidaymakers into the state, Adeleke urged them to feel safe and enjoy the Eid celebration.
He further said, “What we did is to offer them a free train ride from Lagos to celebrate Sallah and I am happy to receive these indigenes of the state. That is why I have come here to personally receive them.
“Some of them have been here not long ago, they just took advantage of our free train ride initiative to come around and celebrate Sallah.
“I urge them to relax, feel safe and enjoy the celebration. Osun is a peaceful state. They should enjoy their stay. And of course, as they are coming in, they must have observed various infrastructural amenities we are working on in the state. By Sunday, I urge them to move around and see these projects.”
In his remarks, Osun State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Bunmi Jenyo, commended Adeleke for creating time to personally receive the holidaymakers, assuring that the government would continue to place high premiums on the welfare of its indigenes, whether living within its shores or outside Osun.
One of the beneficiaries of the initiative, Tajudeen Olayeju from Ila Orangun, said he got to know about the free train service of the Osun state government through a friend, adding that the initiative relieved him of the huge amount that would have been spent if he had traveled by road.
